Welcome the hiking season with a refreshing alpine escape! Soar to 2,612 meters on the Komagatake Ropeway for breathtaking views of the Central Alps, explore the stunning Senjojiki Cirque, and treat yourself to the famous "Makimaki Soft Cream" in the peaceful Komagane Highlands.
★ The bowl-shaped cirque was carved out by glacial activity around 20,000 years ago. After transferring from bus to ropeway, you’ll arrive at Japan’s highest ropeway station. Just beneath the rugged cliffs of Mt. Hōken (2,931m) in the Central Alps, the stunning Senjojiki Cirque unfolds before you.
A walking trail (approx. 40 minutes round trip) surrounds the cirque, lined with beautiful alpine plants. Enjoy a leisurely self-guided stroll while taking in the dynamic landscape and delicate highland flowers, especially vibrant during the summer season.
Climate & Clothing Tips for Senjojiki – Guidance on what to wear and expect at high elevation
Even in the peak of summer (July and August), temperatures at Senjojiki Cirque remain cool, with highs around just 20°C. If you dress based on temperatures at lower elevations, you may find yourself uncomfortably cold.
Never underestimate the mountain climate—be sure to dress warmly or bring layers that you can easily add or remove to adjust to the cooler conditions.
