In Japan, calligraphy is more than just letters. We inherited the complex Chinese characters from China over 1000 years ago. Each character has hundreds of years of story, evolution and meaning. In this program, a professional calligrapher will teach you the fascinating history of calligraphy and the basic writing styles and techniques that have been developed over the centuries.

In the first half, you will learn the basics of calligraphy, such as how to use inkstones and brushes, how to write names in Japanese, and how to write Japanese characters such as kanji, hiragana, and katakana. And in the second half, you will be able to fully demonstrate the results of the practice and create your own calligraphy work.
