- Asahiyama Zoo Located in Asahikawa, near the heart of Hokkaido, Asahiyama Zoo is Japan’s northernmost zoo and a major tourist destination. Take a comfortable, direct tour bus from Sapporo—about 150 km away! Though the 3.5-hour journey is a bit long, your expert guide will keep you entertained with stories of Hokkaido’s history, scenery, and local trivia.
En route, enjoy a break at Sunagawa Highway Oasis, a fantastic spot to pick up Hokkaido souvenirs, famous sweets, regional sake, and fresh Sorachi produce.
At Asahiyama Zoo, you can see animals in unique, naturalistic habitats—including seals swimming through cylindrical tanks at the Seal House, diving polar bears at the Polar Bear House, and penguins "flying" through the water in the Penguin House's underwater tunnel. With 30 animal exhibits, interactive guided talks, and popular feeding-time events ("Mogu-Mogu Time"), it's an unforgettable experience.

- Tour duration of each site will change depending on traffic conditions on the way.
- The Penguin Walk is viewable depending on event timing during your stay. (Please note that the exact time of the Penguin Walk has not been decided yet. If it takes place outside of your tour stay, you will not be able to see it.)
- Please understand the the Penguin Walk may be cancelled or changed depending on the weather and snopack for that day.
- You can choose the final drop-off points from where written on the itinerary section. If you decide it, please let the guide know on the day. We do not accept the request from our site.
- During March the Penguin Walk is scheduled for the morning, so we will not be able to view the show.
- This course will be suspended in the event that the expressway is closed due to inclement winter weather.
