The Experience

Marvel at the Iconic "Window of Enlightenment" Framed in Autumn Leaves at Genko-an

  • Genko-an was founded in 1364 by Tetsuo of Daitoku-ji as a place of retirement.
  • In autumn, the temple grounds—from the entrance gate to the inner precincts—are beautifully covered in vibrant autumn foliage.
  • The most famous features are the “Window of Enlightenment” and the “Window of Delusion” inside the main hall.
  • The view of the autumn leaves through these windows resembles a breathtaking painting, offering a truly picturesque scene.

Stroll Through the Vibrant Maple-Lined Pathways of Tranquil Josho-ji Temple

  • Josho-ji Temple was the first temple established by Honami Koetsu in the Takaoka area.
  • It is known for the "Yoshino Gate," donated by the renowned courtesan Yoshino Tayu, and the tea room "Iho-an."
  • Set in a peaceful natural environment, the temple offers a stunning display of Rakuhoku’s vibrant autumn foliage.

Discover the Serene Beauty of Koetsu-ji, Adorned in Brilliant Fall Colors

  • Koetsu-ji Temple stands at the foot of Takagamine, on land granted to Honami Koetsu by Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1615.
  • Koetsu gathered artisans and his family here, building a thatched retreat and establishing an artistic village.
  • In autumn, the temple’s stone-paved approach and moss-covered grounds are beautifully blanketed in vibrant maple leaves, creating a deeply atmospheric scene.
  • Its unique fence, known as the Koetsu-gaki, is also famous—its gently curved shape is said to resemble a reclining ox, earning it the nickname Gagyu-gaki (“Reclining Ox Fence”).

Savor a Refined Kyoto-Style Lunch Showcasing Seasonal Delicacies

  • Enjoy a beautifully crafted seasonal kaiseki meal that highlights Kyoto’s freshest ingredients and seasonal flavors.
  • The meal features a refined and playful selection of traditional dishes, including hassun (seasonal appetizers), sashimi, simmered and fried items, and more—offering a delightful taste of Kyoto’s culinary elegance.

Take Home a Gourmet Pound Cake Supervised by 3-Star Gion Sasaki

  • Gion Sasaki, one of Kyoto’s most sought-after and hardest-to-book kaiseki restaurants, renowned for its exceptional cuisine.
  • This tour includes a special takeaway gift: a pound cake supervised by this Michelin 3-star establishment.
