Build the ultimate original rice bowl "Sorameshi" packed with exactly what you want to eat.
【Tanga Market】 Affectionately known as the "Kitchen of Kitakyushu," boasts over 100 years of history. Located in the heart of Kokura, it is a lively arcade lined with roughly 100 shops selling fresh seafood, vegetables, meats, and traditional side dishes.
【Sorameshi: DIY Rice Bowl】 A culinary treasure hunt. You start with a simple bowl of warm white rice. With this blank canvas, you wander Tanga Market. Load up your bowl with fresh tuna from a fishmonger, crispy tempura, and juicy karaage (fried chicken). Then, add the market's famous nukamiso-daki (a local specialty of fish slowly simmered in fermented rice bran for deep umami), the iconic Tanga canape (savory minced fish paste wrapped in crispy deep-fried bread), and aromatic smoked salmon from Ibushiya. You build your own original rice bowl step by step!
Please note that delicatessens, fresh fish shops, and butcher shops at Tanga Market have irregular holidays and may be closed on the day of your visit.
【How to use】 First, please visit the "Ibushiya" store to receive your white rice, a serving tray, and your vouchers. Please note that these vouchers can only be used at designated "participating shops." Please check the provided map or list in advance, as the vouchers cannot be redeemed at non-participating stalls.
【How to eat】 Eating while walking around the market is considered bad manners. Please enjoy your completed "Sorameshi" only at the designated eating areas. 【Recommended Items to Bring】 Your hands might get a bit sticky while handling the bowl and receiving different toppings. Bringing a personal pack of wet wipes is highly recommended for a comfortable experience.
