Nakayama Wisteria Night Illumination
The Nakayama Ofuji, or Grand Wisteria, is a magnificent 300-year-old wisteria tree located at Nakayama Kumano Shrine in Yanagawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The wisteria's history dates back to the Edo period when a local liquor store owner named "Man" brought wisteria seeds from Noda, Osaka, and planted them. Over time, the wisteria grew to an impressive size, attracting numerous visitors.
During the blooming season, typically from mid to late April, the Nakayama Grand Wisteria Festival is held at the shrine and nearby Tachibana Ikoinomori Park.
One of the highlights of the Nakayama Ofuji experience is the nighttime illumination. During the festival period, the wisteria is beautifully lit up from sunset until 22:00. This creates a romantic and mystical atmosphere, transforming the daytime beauty into a magical nighttime spectacle. The illuminated wisteria, especially the arch over the shrine's stone bridge, offers a breathtaking view and serves as a perfect photo opportunity for visitors, particularly couples.
