The Experience
"Omiwa Shrine" Omiwa Shrine is said to be the oldest shrine in Japan. The deity is Mt. Miwa itself. It is a sacred place that has been revered as "the mountain where God dwells" since long ago. The approach to the shrine, lined with large pine, cedar, and cypress trees, is filled with a nostalgic and gentle atmosphere.
The shrine grounds are large and there is much to see, so walk around and explore!

Omiwa Shrine is said to be home to the god of sake! The only existing sake brewery in the area is Imanishi Sake Brewery. Visitors can stop by the store and purchase souvenirs. You can also enjoy eating sake ice cream. You can also stop by a famous croquette shop and a monaka shop nearby.(Souvenirs are not included in the price.)
You can try and enjoy Nagashi somen! Nagashi somen is a fun Japanese eating style. You catch the noodles with your chopsticks, dip them in a cup of flavorful sauce and eat. Miwa, Sakurai City, Nara Prefecture, is the birthplace of somen. The noodles are characterized by their thin and firm texture. Enjoy eating the delicious noodles.
