The elegant appearance has been protected as it was since the Edo period. It is said to be "small Kyoto of Hida" and it is protected as a preserved area with important traditional buildings. You will find a number of houses with roofs shaped like folded hands. You can feel the Japanese history and it creates a fantastic atmosphere to walk around!
Are you in the magnificent city of Nagoya and you want to see what lies beyond it? The former is found in the Hida region in the Gifu Prefecture. Takayama may be considered a city, but it’s not the kind that people are accustomed to. The houses and the buildings are all traditional, especially in its Old Town. These houses are over a hundred years old and their design is said to look like the clasped hands of monks in prayer.
