Shusshakaji Temple offers a hands-on program where you can learn "Kanamoji'' calligraphy from the chief priest. "Kanamonji" are characters unique to Japan that are based on kanji, and when used in calligraphy, their flowing, smooth strokes and soft curves give a sense of elegance. Additionally, we offer a more accessible calligraphy experience plan where you can learn to write your name.
The calligraphy experience will be held in a guest hall that is not open to the public. You can practice while looking at a model, and the chief priest will give you careful advice on how to write beautifully. After deepening their understanding of kana characters through practice, they write songs on washi paper. Finally, sign in Japanese, affix your name stamp, and you're done. - When it comes to calligraphy at temples, it is often the experience of copying the Heart Sutra (Buddhist text), which consists only of kanji, but at Shusshaka-ji Temple, you can experience calligraphy using
kana moji'', a character unique to Japan. - The chief priest, who is also a calligrapher, will explain how to write kana characters and correct each character.
- Using a reception hall that is not open to the public as a venue. You can see the beautiful scenery and garden overlooking the Seto Inland Sea from your room.
- We will prepare a name stamp with your name engraved in stone. You can take the stamps home.
- The guide will also tell you how to worship at the temple, so please come with confidence.
注意事項
- Please come to the souvenir shop of the temple 10 minutes before the experience starts.
- If the ink used for calligraphy gets on your clothes, it may not come off even after washing. Please participate in clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.
- Please note that if you are late for the meeting time, you may not be able to participate.
- If children are participating, please be sure to participate with their parents.
