The Edo Kaido Project seeks to encourage tourism throughout the Kanto region by rejuvenating local neighborhoods through the history, culture, food, and industries amassed along the Five Routes and their secondary routes, beginning with Nihonbashi. Nihonbashi, which served as both the starting and terminating point for these routes, was a hub for numerous cultures and technology from across Japan during the Edo era, resulting in the formation of a new Edo culture.

Many of these traditions continue to be carried down today through traditional performing arts, crafts, and long-standing institutions. Ammon Miyamoto, a world-renowned director from this region, will guide us through this endeavor. Our themes will be "Experience Edo Culture" and "Invitation to Roadside Tourism." We strive to create unique experiences by thoroughly developing cultural events such as traditional bushido and Kabuki, as well as Edo-period cuisine, using particular local resources. In addition, we will work with antenna shops from other prefectures in Chuo Ward to promote Edo culture experiences and stimulate tourism along Edo's roadways, with a focus on the five routes.

The Highlight

This project attempts to capitalize on the strong potential of traditional culture, which is thought to be of great appeal to tourists, by focusing on Nihonbashi. As a pioneering endeavor, we will collaborate to create Edo-period cultural tourism experiences in the Kanto region. The program will focus on generating unique experiences with "extraordinary individuals" (such as cultural inheritors) and "extraordinary places" (cultural hotspots like as Nihonbashi and Ginza) serving as the stage.

Programme to experience Ukiyo-e, which flourished during the Edo period. Ukiyo-e, which were widely loved by the general public and contributed to the development of Edo culture because they depicted the popular culture, daily life, customs and landscapes of the time, express rich hues and depth, delicacy of fine lines and intensity of colour by precisely carving and layering different woodblocks for each colour. In order to properly convey this artistic, cultural and historical significance to foreign visitors, Ukiyo-e prints are digitally enlarged and explained in detail
