Yabusame demonstration. A program where tourists can watch Yabusame demonstrations.

・What is "Yabusame"? Yabusame is a traditional Japanese martial art that involves skilled archers on horseback shooting arrows at wooden targets while riding at full speed. Dating back to the Kamakura period (1185–1333), it was originally practiced by samurai as a form of training. Today, yabusame is performed as a ceremonial event at various festivals and shrines across Japan, showcasing impressive horsemanship, archery skills, and a glimpse into Japan’s ancient warrior culture.

特色

We will welcome Mr. Kiyoshi Ogasawara, the 31st head of the Ogasawara-ryu school of archery etiquette, to perform as a lecturer.

說明

Yabusame, a traditional Japanese archery tradition passed down as a ritual, will be demonstrated with realism and power by the successors of the Ogasawara school, which served as instructors for the shogunate for 850 years from Minamoto no Yoritomo to Tokugawa Yoshinobu. This time, the event will be held in conjunction with the Nihonbashi Bettara Market, which will be held in Nihonbashi Honcho and Nihonbashi Odenmacho, the birthplace of Nihonbashi (the first place in Edo Town's ward division), where the old Nikko Highway passes through. We will liven up Tara City.

The Bettara-Ichi is a traditional annual market held in Tokyo, typically around October 19th and 20th, near Takarada Ebisu Shrine. It has a history of over 400 years and is known for selling “bettara-zuke,” a type of sweet, slightly sticky pickled daikon radish. The market features numerous stalls offering local foods, snacks, and festive goods, making it a lively and unique cultural experience where visitors can enjoy traditional Japanese flavors and atmosphere.
