Limited to the Kamiari Festival season! Discover Izumo Taisha, Inasa no Hama, and Yaegaki Shrine on a 2-day journey, with an overnight stay at Kaike Onsen Fuyo Bekkan.
During one week of the lunar October, it is believed that all of Japan's deities gather at Izumo Taisha. While the rest of Japan calls this month Kannazuki ("Month Without Gods"), Izumo celebrates it as Kamiarizuki ("Month With Gods"). The festival features sacred ceremonies welcoming, honoring, and sending off the deities.
Dedicated to Okuninushi-no-Okami, the deity of love and good fortune, Izumo Taisha is one of Japan's oldest and most revered shrines, with a history recorded in the ancient Kojiki.
The Kamimiya Shrine is open to visitors only during the seven-day Kamiari Festival. According to tradition, this is where the gathered deities hold their divine meetings. Visitors may also receive sacred sake and blessed rice, subject to availability.
