Four hundred years later.
In 1626, the Tokugawa shogunate welcomed Emperor Go-Mizunoo to Nijo Castle and entertained him for five days with bugaku court dance, Noh theater and waka poetry. This historic imperial visit is known as the Kan’ei Gyoko. To mark its 400th anniversary, the grand imperial procession will be recreated through the streets of Kyoto on Sunday, December 6, 2026. On this plan, you’ll dress in costume of the era and watch the procession from special viewing seats. To complete the day, enjoy a lunch only Kyoto can offer, a traditional rickshaw ride, and commemorative photos taken by a professional photographer.
