The Experience

Central Alps Senjojiki Cirque at 2,612m – a breathtaking natural wonder

  • The bowl-shaped landscape known as a “cirque” was carved out by glaciers around 20,000 years ago. After riding both bus and ropeway, you’ll arrive at Japan’s highest station, where the majestic Senjojiki Cirque unfolds beneath the rugged peaks of Mt. Hōken (2,931m) in the Central Alps.
  • Step off at “Senjojiki” Station—the highest ropeway station in Japan—and be greeted by golden mountain slopes stretching out before you. This stunning spot is one of the most popular scenic highlights! With the vivid autumn colors reflected like a mirror in the serene Kengaike Pond, the view looks like a picture-perfect postcard.

Japan’s highest vertical lift of 950m! Enjoy stunning views on the Komagatake Ropeway

  • The Senjojiki Cirque lies directly beneath Mt. Hōken (2,931m) in the Central Alps, and can be reached via a dramatic mountain ropeway. From the ropeway, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of Mt. Fuji and the Southern Alps. This area is also renowned as a paradise for alpine plants.
  • Don’t miss the chance to experience this awe-inspiring natural landscape aboard the Central Alps Komagatake Ropeway.
  • One of the highlights is the breathtaking “autumn sky walk” as the ropeway glides above vibrant seas of colorful foliage spread across the mountain slopes—a signature feature of the Senjojiki Cirque in autumn.

Temperature and clothing guide for Senjojiki

  • Even in the peak of summer (July and August), temperatures at Senjojiki Cirque remain pleasantly cool, with daytime highs around just 20°C.
  • Wearing the same clothes you would wear at lower elevations can leave you uncomfortably cold. Never underestimate the mountain climate—be sure to dress warmer than usual or bring extra layers you can put on as needed.

Stroll Through the Komagane Highlands

  • A scenic resort area with the Central Alps in front and the Southern Alps behind. This gentle walking course is enjoyable year-round. Stroll along riverside paths and enjoy the soothing sound of the stream, with close-up views of the surrounding mountains and ever-changing seasonal landscapes.

All-You-Can-Swirl Soft Cream Experience♪ (Milk or Apple Flavor)

  • Try your hand at swirling as much soft cream as you like! Made with rich local “Suzuran Milk,” this delicious treat is so popular that people travel from afar just to taste it. Aim for a perfectly swirled cone over 15cm tall!
