Hitome Hakkei
The name "Hitome Hakkei" (meaning "eight views with one glance") comes from the fact that you can take in the surrounding rocky peaks like Saru-san, Tobinosu-yama, Shoutsugen-zan, Meoto-iwa, Oushika-nagao-mine, Eboshi-iwa, Sennin-iwa, and Kaibou-rei all at once. It is a representative scenic spot of Shin-Yabakei. From the Hitome Hakkei observation deck, you can enjoy all these beautiful views. There is also a promenade on the other side of the river, where you can admire the eight views from a different perspective than the observation deck.
Keisekian This 20,000 square-meter Japanese garden was constructed in 1987 to commemorate the completion of the Yabakei Dam. It utilizes dam water to recreate the mountain streams of Yabakei, with tens of thousands of stones and over 31,000 trees of more than 100 species. The garden also features ponds, rocks, and waterfalls, creating a stunning harmony that reflects the changing seasons.
Here, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery created by the interplay of natural light and shadow. Every autumn, the garden becomes even more enchanting with special nighttime illuminations of the colorful maple leaves.
Kyusui Valley The valleys of the Kusu and Naruko Rivers are known for their beautiful scenery. Among them, Kyusui Valley is particularly famous for its fresh green foliage, autumn leaves, and stunning waterfalls.
The valley stretches for about 2 kilometers along the banks of the Kusu River, featuring cliffs and old-growth forests of fir, Japanese cypress, and Japanese Judas trees. Because of the series of sharp U-turns on the road that winds through the area, it's also known as "Jusanshori," or "Thirteen Bends." The autumn leaves here are especially famous, attracting many visitors each year when the foliage is at its peak.
Kokonoe Yume Suspension Bridge The Kokonoe "Yume" (Dream) Suspension Bridge offers a panoramic view from an altitude of 777 meters. At 173 meters high and 390 meters long, it holds the title of "Japan's longest pedestrian-only suspension bridge."
From the bridge, you can see the Shindo Falls, which has been selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls. You can also gaze upon the famous Kyusui Valley, known for its fresh green foliage and brilliant autumn leaves. In the fall, this spot is particularly renowned for its autumn colors, attracting a large number of tourists every year.
